Our History

Spartanburg Meat Processing Co., Inc. was founded in 1999 by JoAnne LaBounty and 4 partners and began production in a 15,000 sq/ft facility.  Following the economic crash after 911, 3 of the partners resigned their shares and Ms. LaBounty became the sole owner in February 2002 after buying out the remaining partner.  SMP was certified as a Woman Owned Business in March 2003.

As the company has grown in the past 15 years, JoAnne has assembled a quality management and production team that includes many family members.  The initial 15,000 sq/ft facility has long been outgrown and the Company now occupies over 75,000 sq/ft. Initially approved as only a pork processing plant, USDA plant #21010, is currently able to process pork, beef and chicken.

All of us at Spartanburg Meat Processing, management, QA, production leaders and our processing team, are committed to providing products that exceed all FSIS, USDA and SQF quality standards.  As we continue to grow, we continue to strive for long term relationships and can only accomplish this by being the best we can be for our benefit and the benefit of our customers.
